While I feel like this was a week of excellent progress I'm also now going - two weeks to finish this room!!! And while I know that it's mostly under control I've also got a bit of panic happening (cue screaming inside my head and reaching for the brown paper bag).
This week was a big leap of faith/trust/letting go as I gave my almost five year old the paints and brushes to have at the mural wall. Honestly - this is where good design might go astray. But I'm just counting to ten and knowing I can come behind and roll over a few parts if necessary (it will be - because even some of the paint I slapped on isn't looking so hot). There are a few sections (like the photo below) that I'm really into. I am going to encourage that as we move forward over the next couple days.
We can do this!
1. Pillow covers are sewn. In my brain I needed to lay this out and reaffirm that this was the right direction.
2. Dresser finished - brass knobs for the win!
3. This amazing pendant lamp scored at Home Sense for over the desk. A new room arrangement means I could justify this. Ok, who am I kidding. There's zero justification other than it's amazing - and a new plan to mix in metals in the space and it just fits.
4. The simplest DIY on the planet. Ok, maybe 2 out of 5 but you can do this. I took the existing roller shade in the room down, laid it out flat, cut fabric to cover enough so when you pull it down there's no white bits, got out the spray glue, and wha-bam, custom roller shade for cheap! I use an old hotel card or loyalty card to help smooth the fabric, and while it take a bit of re-positioning sometimes, it's pretty basic. Tip: The more random the pattern the less likely you are to mess up. And friends, if you don't like it in a couple years the glue is tacky enough to hold the fabric but it will come off if you want. Next I cut a piece of wood long enough to act as a valance, measured and cut fabric, got out the spray glue and ta-da, a valance to hide the ugly hardware and rolled up section. It took about 30 minutes of work to do this.
I'm now starting to question though how much I should be spending on this room. I haven't done the tally (and honestly don't want to) but I'm probably already over my 'budget'. Bad decorator. It's not a room we are going to be using frequently so can I really spend more money? How much do I love my family?
I've got a lot of work ahead of me this week. We need to finish the wall mural and start hanging the art. My problem is, it's been so beautiful and sunny I just want to be out in the gardens! Of course if anyone knows the weather here in Calgary it will be snowing any day now.
